With a celebration befitting a significant investment, HELLENIC DAIRIES S.A. inaugurated the Group’s new factory in Cyprus, dedicated to producing Halloumi cheese P.D.O., the renowned cheese that has been a staple of Cypriot cuisine for centuries.
The event, attended by employees, clients, partners, suppliers, farmers, and authorities from both Cyprus and Greece, took place at the factory’s premises in the industrial area of Tseri, Nicosia.
The new facility, covering a total area of 12.000m2, represents an investment of nearly €70M. It is a production plant that manufactures P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) Halloumi and Anari cheese, with an annual production capacity of 18,000 tons of Halloumi, accounting for 40% of Cyprus' total annual Halloumi production.
The factory is designed with a strong focus on environmental sustainability, implementing “green” methods to optimize its resources. It includes an anaerobic wastewater treatment unit that breaks down the organic load and produces biogas, which is used as fuel to meet part of the plant’s thermal energy needs.
Additionally, part of the electricity demand is met by 3.2 MW photovoltaic panels. Aware of the water scarcity on the island, HD has also designed a water recovery unit to reuse treated wastewater for secondary purposes. Embracing the values of quality, authenticity, and innovation, this new facility reflects the Group's commitment to producing high-quality products that meet the growing global demand while incorporating the authentic Mediterranean tradition.
Representatives from Cyprus and the Greek government attended and addressed the event.
The evening continued with a special dinner featuring Cypriot delicacies prepared by the executive chef and concluded with a grand party accompanied by a fantastic live band.
